STEMployable

The STEMployable service mark was created in 2016 and identifies specific educational workshops and seminars designed to enhance the employment outcomes of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) higher education graduates in the 21st century. Informational content will be delivered to the public using electronic and traditional platforms. STEMployable interventions primarily focus on career exploration, career planning skills, knowledge mastery, and career development skills. STEMployable.net will launch in April 2017.
Terminology
The term STEMployable specifically refers to the requisite behaviors, credentials, documentation (e.g., cover letter, resume, portfolio), experiences, and knowledge college graduates need to obtain and maintain employment in a STEM field after graduation. STEMployable skills are a confluence of academic, professional, and research skills. The term STEMployable also provides a transformative, user-friendly nomenclature and an intuitive conceptual framework for institutions of higher learning to develop and implement meaningful strategies to prepare students for the world of work following commencement proceedings.
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework for STEMployable is derived from Social Cognitive Career Theory, Kolb’s experiential learning model, and work-based learning. The STEMployable framework includes two dimensions: proficiency and career self-efficacy. Extensive analysis of the research literature indicates that each element of the model independently and collectively facilitates college student employment outcomes. The proficiency component is linked to demonstration of discipline knowledge, soft skills, laboratory practice, research skills, and communication skills. Career self-efficacy is broadly defined as one’s belief or confidence in their ability to obtain employment in their desired field of study. The descriptive model provides a functional tool for conceptualizing STEM career preparedness. Student-centered instructional methods and precise measurement of STEMployable tenets in the context of academic and professional environments are yet to be elaborated.
Logo Design
The STEMployable logo was created with the Arial Black font. Some forms of the logo are designed to specifically highlight the acronym STEM to reinforce the targeted academic disciplines. The predominate and most utilized colors of the logo are black and white, however, logo colors may vary. The current slogan is "Producing STEMployable Graduates".
Advertising
STEMployable advertising is largely performed using online vehicles such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and directed virtual and traditional communication vehicles to interact with specific stakeholders, agencies, companies, and academic institutions.
