Stefan Duncan

Stefan Duncan (born December 1, 1956) is an American artist.
Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Duncan created the art form called Squiggleism in 2002. An Impressionist's dash with a twist applied with unblended paint side by side, or layered similar to Pointillism. In most of Duncan's squiggleism paintings, the source of light represents the Divine. Each squiggle is a unit of the Divine. Using this symbolism, Duncan tries to unveil the Divine essence in nature. He says, "Squiggleism is a living spirit art."

Duncan was an editor for a small publishing company in Hopewell, NC and taught creative writing at Fayetteville Technical Community College until a near fatal car accident in 1989. His parents were called to donate his organs but Duncan continued to live. After two years of recovery, he completed an English and Art degree. He won an Associated Press Award for best crime story and in 2001, began to focus on an art career. He created Squiggleism through a painting he called The Glory Tree at Cape Fear Studios in Fayetteville, with prismacolor pencils. In August 2005, he held his first solo exhibit in acrylic paints. He sold 17 paintings during the two hour reception.

"...he is an accomplished painter making a name for himself in the modern era with his own unique brand of brush work. His style has been dubbed "Squiggleism" and is similar to Post-Impressionism with a flair. His creations are full of long strokes with curls of unblended primary colors that create secondary colors. The brush marks dance across the canvas giving a sense of movement and light." J. Wesley Knowles Charlotte Living: The Lifestyle Magazine of the Carolinas July/August 2009

Duncan has been dubbed "The American Van Gogh,". To date he has sold 575 original paintings.

Currently, Stefan has a studio in Charlotte, NC. He is a regular guest on FOX News Rising and for the nationally syndicated TV show "Paint, Paper, and Crafts". He is presented by galleries across the country and sells paintings internationally.
