A statistical threshold is often defined as an arbitrary percentage which computationally determines whether a point of interest is significant enough to be under consideration or used for other purposes. A major motivation of statisticians and data scientists in determining a threshold is to eliminate any arbitrariness or stipulations that serve to establish the threshold through anything other than mechanical means. The mechanical method of determining a threshold is computational and able to adjust the threshold based on dependencies. This type of method is one of a multitude of methods that are being used in the implementation of machine learning.
