StarCraft Precursor or Shareware Campaign is a demo of StarCraft. Its events take place before the beginning of the original StarCraft story. It begins with the Confederacy attacking a rebel base. Strange xenomorphs appear, which are later revealed to be the Zerg, and attack the player. They become the main focus of the story as the player has to rescue colonies and facilities from them. The missions end with the Confederacy keeping the existence of the Zerg secret and begin studying them. These events explain the Confederacy's knowledge of the Zerg in the StarCraft 1 game and the psi-emitters used by the Terrans, developed through the encounters in Precursor.
