Stand-up Comedy: The Book (1989) is a how to book on stand-up comedy. It's the first book by comedian Judy Carter. Stand-up Comedy was published on August 5, 1989 by Dell Publishing. The book is divided into a series of chapter that each focus on an aspect of stand-up comedy from creating material to creating and audience. Each chapter contains a mix of advice from the established comedians, as well as exercises to help the reader progress. The book also contains a chapter on the business side of stand-up comedy. Mike Drucker in a 2010 article for SplitSider, gave Stand-up Comedy a negative review, stating that most stand-up comedy guide books were a "scam" and this one was "even worse" than Carter's later guide, The Comedy Bible.
