Stagevu is a video sharing Web site that provides users the opportunity to upload, download, and watch high-resolution videos using the DivX Web Player. The site was released to the general public in April, 2008, following the closure of the DivX-operated video website Stage6.
Following its release, Stagevu has managed to garner a significant user and content base, constituting of over 5,000 users and 4,000 videos, and has also managed to achieve a self-sustainable funding model.
History Stagevu was established in April, 2008, after two months of rushed development following the closure of Stage6 in February. The initial version of the website was rushed into production, however, resulting in frequent downtime and the prevalence of many back-end bugs. Being a Stage6 successor, Stagevu's potential competitors include similar websites such as StageHD and VReel .
Over time, bug fixes and back-end revamps have greatly improved the site's functionality, and features such as Channels and Subscriptions, available on the previous Stage6, have been added. The website is currently in the process of sustainable expansion.
Technical Aspects The website allows users to upload videos in many different formats, including the popular but rarely supported Matroska video container, along with separate subtitle tracks, which are then re-encoded on the servers. By avoiding the usage of any Content Delivery Network, costs are minimized.
