Music
Stacy Paul started Black Eyeliner Tears, a solo project that draws influences from his favorite artists most notably The Cure and other bands like Dead Can Dance, Radiohead, and Brian Eno. The project was acclaimed in metal circles, with The Cure guitarist Porl Thompson having a Black Eyeliner Tears song (the song called Black Eyeliner Tears), displayed on his myspace page for almost a year.
Paul founded the black metal band Oplexicon in 2000, in which he is the lead singer. Since it its inception the band has had several different guitarists and guest musicians. Started alone, he began primarily writing and classical composition, which materialized in 2006 when he and close friend Chris Erikson joined forces to create an album.
The songs the duo recorded were used on Chris' solo project BitterFrost, the name of which was created by Paul. Paul either sung, composed, or played (or all three) on five of the sixteen tracks on the album. He received outstanding reviews from the metal world for his vocals, lyrics, guitar work and composition on some songs.
His most recent and most important musical project is London Fog, an electronic group with a sound likened unto Portishead, Massive Attack, various soundtracks and ambient music. Although not giving up on Black Eyeliner Tears, he changed his myspace from Black Eyeliner Tears to London Fog in early 2009 to focus on this project. After starting the project solo, he invited friend and fellow London musician and composer Ben Beiny to handle most of the music, while he concentrates on lyrics, vocals and guitars. They are recording an album slated for release late 2010 or early 2011.
His favorite band is extreme metal band Emperor.
