St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church (Burlington, North Carolina)
St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church is an Greek Orthodox church in Burlington, North Carolina. The church houses a Greek Language School, the Philoptohos Society, and hosts Burlington's annual Greek Festival. History A group of Christians began planning and raising funds to build St. Katherine's in 1969, and wer able to dedicate the church on November 28, 1971 in a service led by Archbishop Iakovos of America. Gov. Robert W. Scott attended. The church expanded to include a fellowship hall in 1991. The formal Consecration of the church took place April 28, 2007, when consecration by the Alexios of the Atlanta, Greek Orthodox Metropolis, raised St. Katherine's status from mission church to parish in a ceremony that included the formal emplacement of the relics of several saints in side the altar, after the relics had been carried in procession around the church building three times.
