Spouse of the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is the unofficial title and position of the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. This position is similar to a political "Second Lady" and the Prime Ministers wife being the "First Lady", however as the Prime Minister is not the Head of State this is not recognised as the Royal Family and HM Elizabeth II takes precedence over all including the Prime Minister. In Monarchies the Prime Ministers wife is in a way the Second Lady but this is neither official or acknowledged in the UK, usually used for reference by the press. The role is not always filled when a government is in power and is dependent of the government to appoint a Deputy Prime Minister, the last being John Prescott whose wife Pauline Prescott was the last to hold this position when he was in office. There is no official role of the Deputy Prime Minister's wife.
