Spirella Girls

Spirella Girls was a Swedish pop group consisting of Nina Aller Branch, Anna Axelson, Richard Frohm, Asa Mjörndal and Roger Broman (lyrics and production).
The group was formed in Umeå, and existed during the years 1993 - 2000. They performed satirical texts in the form of skits, monologues and songs. They are best known for the football song Brolin, Brolin (1994) based on the song Jolene by Dolly Parton and referring to football star Tomas Brolin.
Members of Spirella Girls had previously worked in various revues and dinner show, and in the groups "Helium Hansson and his Gasattrapper" and "Peppe and The Popping Peanuts" (in a TV recording of Sixten Landby's poem Kill me on Kilimanjaro). Spirella Girls was formed in January 1993 before a dinner show at the Town Hall basement in Umeå. The show with lyrics by Roger Broman was called Bubble in the jar. The show included the group's best-known hit Brolin, Brolin, also released as a CD single and video in 1994. Subsequent performances with Spirella Girls Kill Me were The schoolmaster - spring 1994, Thousand hot kisses - autumn 1994, and Oh, oh, oh! - Autumn 1995.
The group played in many Swedish cities, and during 1994 - 1997 appeared each fall and spring at the Mosebacke Etablissement in Stockholm. In February 1996 the Spirella Girls went on tour to China: four concerts in three cities: Beijing, Harbin and Tianjin. They were reinforced during the tour by musicians Jonas Knutsson - saxophone, Benty Öqvist - guitar, Mats Engberg, bass, and Ulf Sundquist - Drums. The group was the fifth rock band from the West who toured in China (after Wham and Roxette). Later in 1996, the Spirella Girls put on a new dinner show in Umeå - things happen.
In autumn 1996 they formed a partnership with the Piteå-based comedian Ronny Eriksson. The show was called "Crazy Cow" and took place at a brothel where politicians and other shady characters gathered. The show was first performed in Umeå, and then went out on northern tour. The musicians were basically the same as during the China tour. In autumn 1997 they performed Crazy Cow at Stora Teatern in Stockholm. During the years 1998 - 2000 the Spirella Girls collaborated with Jerry Williams.
