Sphere Builder

The Sphere Builders are aliens from another dimension in the fictional Star Trek universe. They are bent on conquering the galaxy by reconfiguring the fabric of space to make it more hospitable to them using specially designed moon-sized spheres. They were first seen in the 2004 Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Harbinger". Their technology is responsible for the creation of a region of space known as the Delphic Expanse, where the physical laws of our universe often break down. The Expanse is extremely hostile to residents of our dimension, and those that enter have great difficulty in leaving. The Expanse is also not yet entirely suitable for the Sphere Builders.
History
By approximately the year 2550, the Sphere Builders were on the verge of accomplishing their goal when they created an area habitable to them stretching about 50,000 light years in all directions from the center of the Expanse. However, as Daniels showed Jonathan Archer on board the , the United Federation of Planets engaged the Sphere Builders at the Battle of Procyon V, where the Federation is led by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-J). The Enterprise-J is the flagship of the Federation; it is also the most diverse ship ever in the Federation. Serving on board are Vulcans, Andorians, Ithanites, Klingons, Humans, and dozens of other species; including Xindi. The Federation wins the battle and drives the enemy back into their trans-dimensional realm.
The Builders sought to prevent the Federation from ever existing. They went back to the 22nd century, during the days of United Earth and convinced the Xindi that they were going to be attacked four centuries later. After Xindus, the Xindi homeworld, was destroyed, the Sphere Builders helped guide the five surviving species toward habitable planets and precious resources. The Xindi then called them the "Guardians". Like the Triannons, the Xindi referred to the "Guardians" with reverence. Primate Councillor Degra taught his children to thank the "Guardians" at the end of each day for helping them, just as he was taught by his own parents. They manipulated the five races to build a superweapon capable of destroying Earth entirely. They were not satisfied with the killing of seven million people. When the Xindi Council obtained information on the human anatomy, they disagreed on a bio-weapon three-two, so the Builder's representative sent the Reptilians back in time to Earth, Detroit, 2004 to develop it but they were stopped by Captain Archer and T'Pol. However, with the help of Daniels and the mysterious benefactor of Suliban Cabal, Archer was able to convince three out of five Xindi races that they were being deceived. With the recent events, the Builders had the Reptilians and Insectiods begin the launch early. However, the Enterprise destroyed the weapon and all spheres in the Delphic Expanse, sending the Builders back into their dimension.
The battle figures prominently in the "Azati Prime" episode of Enterprise. However, the subsequent defeat of the Sphere Builders by the NX-01 in the 22nd century calls into question whether the Battle of Procyon V will ever occur in the present timeline.
Technology
The Sphere Builders have the technology to examine multiple timelines. Since they saw the future with the Federation, the Sphere Builders tried to change history in their favor by informing the Xindi in 2152 that humanity would ultimately destroy them, so as to panic them into attacking and ultimately destroying Earth. They convinced the Xindi with a video record of their new homeworld's destruction, which was either faked or pulled from some other timeline.
Physiology
Sphere Builders are humanoid in appearance, despite their bizarre physiology. They are hairless and scaly, their coloration is yellowish. The standard outfit is one-piece and armor-like.
In "our" universe, the Builders are vulnerable to a plasma rifle with a rotating frequency of 32.6 teracycles.
Individual Sphere Builders
Only four individual Sphere Builders have been seen: a male test subject who was experimentally placed in one of the Expanse's anomalies so that the progress of the reconfiguration process could be judged, and three female members of the Sphere Builder leadership. The first, wearing black, was their representative to the Xindi, appearing to the Council and later to the Reptilian commander Dolim as a hologram, (this Builder is referred to only as "she" by the Xindi, and simply called "Sphere Builder Woman" in the credits), the second, wearing blue, appeared to be the supreme leader, identified in the credits as "Primary", and the third, wearing yellow, was in charge of reading the timelines, she is identified in the credits as "Presage". All four of these individuals are now deceased due to coming into contact with our dimension.
Sphere 41
Sphere 41 was one of four "Control Spheres" in the 78-sphere network built by the trans-dimensional Sphere Builders. It was destroyed in the episode "Zero Hour." This resulted in the entire network of spheres collapsing via a chain reaction and the spatial anomalies that they had created disappearing. "She", Primary, and Presage, who had boarded the Enterprise in an attempt to prevent the Sphere's destruction, disintegrated as the reconfigured space necessary for their survival collapsed.
