Sonico.com is a social networking website for spanish and portuguese speaking hispanics in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America. History The site was launched on August 2007. Currently on Beta has over 8,000,000 people registered. Users can join targeted networks, connect old friends, upload unlimited photo albums, tag friends on photos and customize their own profile. Sonico.com currently has an Alexa ranking of 167. Site Features Postcards Send online greeting cards to friends both inside and outside of Sonico. Also allows users to see history of sent postcards, and to set future send dates. Birthday Reminder Users can add their friends’ birthdays and receive birthday alerts by email. (This feature is not limited to Sonico users) Message Wall Each profile has a message wall, where other users (depending on each user’s privacy settings) can leave messages and talk with each other. Profile Customization Users can change the appearance of their profile by changing colors, header images and background. They can choose from predefined templates, or design their own one from scratch. Groups/Networks Sonico has network features which allow users to search and meet people by school, university, and country. Privacy Settings Placing a strong emphasis on legitimacy, users must use names and surnames rather than nicknames to further ensure this. Once a user is registered and moderated, he/she will have full control over who can view his/her profile, pictures, comment wall, send them invites, add friends and so on.
