Solomon Joseph

Solomon Joseph (1932-July 7, 2001) was a famous Journalist, Philanthropist, Author and Pioneer of Investigative Journalism from Kerala. Born in Kayamkulam, Kerala, he was brought up in a Malayalee CSI Christian family and settled down in Bombay where he fought for the rights of the underprivileged and suppressed sections of society especially that of South Indians till his death in July 2001.
Career
Soon after his eduction in Kerala, he joined the army where he worked till 1960. He then moved to Bombay where he worked for Bombay Port Trust where he worked till his retirement in 1990 at the age of 58. It was during this time that he developed the art of investigative journalism which was in its infancy in India, to fight for social justice for the underprivileged and the marginalised in Bombay. His famous articles were published in the Malayala Manorama, kerala Shabdam and other Malayam publications. Among the English newspapers his articles and editorials were found aplenty in the Free Press Journal and the Blitz, an investigative newspaper published from Bombay. He has also published more than 10 thought provoking novels in Malayalam which are still avidly read in Kerala for the controversial style he adopted to expose the social ills of society.
Family
He married Saramma Mathai in 1958 and both settled in Bombay till his death in 2001. He leaves behind his wife, two children Susan and James and four grand children.
Achievements
Solomon Joseph was one of the first Malayalees in Bombay to fight against the communal Shiv Sena political party of Bombay. His articles condemning Shiv Sena terror, was a rage among South Indians settled in Bombay who were at the receiving end of the Shiv Sena for working in Bombay, the capital of Maharashtra. He was instrumental in solving several political murders in Bombay and was in good stead with the Bombay police force.
Sunny News, one of the boldest newspapers in India, published from Bombay, has been established by his nephew G.T. Varghese in memory of this great stalwart, Solomon Joseph. This newspaper cherishes his heritage by continuing his fight against powerful, corrupt and evil corporate elements hiding under the garb of white clothed politicians, who manipulate the economy and policies of India to make the rich even richer, resulting in extreme poverty and suffering to the bottom half of the population that are already starving in India.
