By Lucía Villavicencio A08
The explosion of social networking sites over the past decade has made easier the way people communicate with each other. The best - known social sites are Twitter, Hi5, MySpace, Facebook, Sonico, etc.
At the beginning, the majority of users were young guys of fifteen, sixteen, seventeen until twenty-three or twenty-four years old. Now, adults are starting to use it and they give it more a personal use than a professional.
The principal function of these sites is to communicate with people you already know, but there is an option to know people who has common friends with you. In Peru, people have been using these sites for at least two years, but there is a small group that started at 2007.
Projections abput this topic say that the number of accounts will continue increasing. Two years from now, people will be creating more accounts and the actual number will be doubled. The number of users will have increased 20% by this year.
CHILDREN AND PARENTS IN SOCIAL SITES
After all this boom of social sites, parents start looking the risky of these. Guys publish their photos, the place where they live, where they study, including the name of the person they are having a relationship with. Nowadays, some parents are becoming users of these sites to control the information their children publish. What parents should do is to trust their children. They cannot interrupt their privacy just to know if they are at risk. It is true that sometimes teenagers like to publish all their lifes but parents must talk with them to avoid this.
In social sites, you are not supposed to say all your personal information, you can say what you want, no one will know if it is real or not. If children don't know what kind of information they can publish, they could ask their parents, they will always have a good answer.
POLITICAL PEOPLE AND SOCIAL SITES
These social networks have become tha best way to interact with people, but with young people specially. In the last presidential campaign, candidates like Alejandro Toledo, Luis Castañeda, Humala and others, used these sites. They thought they would have a better contact with young people in that way. They didn't have to do it but they knew it would work, ut what they might did was to interact with guys who commented on their publications instead of having a person that answered as he or she were the candidate. In addition to this, the candidates should have used these sites to tell people what they planned to do if they were presidents. They can't lie, because it will be discovered, like the case of Castañeda Lossio; he published that he had an accident in his car, people believed it, but he shouldn't have done that because it was false. In this way, they try to call the attention of the public by lying, they were not supposed to do that. Castañeda migh have published a part of his education plan instead of publishing a lie. At the end, he lost.
CONCLUSION
Social sites make people lives easier. They can contact friends, talk to them quickly, show them photos of trips, families, etc., but people have to pay attention to people they have like friends to not publish very private things. Also, social networks are used to talk about juncture topics and candidates can have a space in which they can show people a different side of themselves.
