Slothbear are a pop group from Long Island, New York. Formed in 2008, the band consists of drummer Batesmaroo, bassist Dbleek, and guitarists Palz and jadewildcat. The year of its inception, the quartet self-released the Slothbear EP, a six-song affair which was "recorded on a broken 4-track with no microphones" and as a result, had a severely lo-fi sound. Reissued on the Rack&Ruin netlabel in the fall of that year, it garnered attention from prominent mp3 blogs such as Skatterbrain! and captains dead, the latter calling the EP "pure fuzzed out pop bliss." In 2009, the group unveiled "No Dialogue," which signaled a move towards polished, studio recording quality. The song prompted the website Pop Tarts Suck Toasted to dub Slothbear "Band of the Week," and was even chosen by Craig Finn of the Hold Steady to be a finalist in Spin.com's MLB 2k10 contest, the winner of which would be featured on the video game's soundtrack. The band placed third with 19% of the vote, and that fall, issued the Don't Taunt a Tiger/Killed by Cars double A-side, via both Rack&Ruin and the group's own Vanity Imprint. The single generated positive response on Starfrosch.ch, where it ranked among the most popular downloads of the year. Slothbear wrapped up the year with a performance on the Phoning It In radio show, live from their basement (SLOTHDEN). Their debut full-length album, Qids, is tentatively set for an early 2010 release, with the The Proof Will Do Me In/TXT MSG Never Sent single to follow sometime after.
