Plot
Single Ladies follows the lives of five young women from traditional Nigerian households, as they navigate through their adventures, the scary and exciting world of dating in Nigeria to find "Mr. Right."
In the pilot episode, the ladies are thrown off guard when Toke arrives to announce her engagement and plans for her “hen night.” Toke decides that it must be a lavish affair, asking Maimuna to take charge of all the arrangements with Mr. A’s boundless budget.
Cast and characters
* Mary Remmy Njoku as Tochi Elendu, a serial engager and a youth corper. She is almost always engaged and easily carried away by guys. Tochi is sassy, funny and deeply devoted to her big sister Mara. She relies a little too much on Mara.
* Padita Agu as Maimuna, a born again Christian and events planner. She is “waiting on the Lord for her own man,” but is not averse to using her feminine wiles to speed things up. A hypocrite, she is easier on herself than others, but friendly and outspoken.
* Mercy Aigbe Gentry as Amara "Mara" Elendu, a 35-year gold-digger who is everything from a model, to an actress, to a farmer, to a runs girl. Mara is industrious but superficial and fake. Mara believes that rich is a spec. Similar to how men want big breasts or fat buttocks, she is unapologetic in her quest for a rich husband. Her one soft spot is her sister, Tochi, with whom she is constantly squabbling.
* Annie Idibia as Vera, a manager at an insurance company. She is a little too serious, and she makes her friends laugh constantly, but only mildly acknowledges that she is actually funny. She commands the respect of the men she dates but they never stay, as they find her over bearing. She is very generous to men and they often take advantage.
* Grace Amah as Bidemi, a single mother who owns a restaurant and is having an affair with a married man. Bidemi is Kola’s on and off long time mistress and baby mama. She is desperate to settle down and raise her son with a father figure. Kola keeps promising to leave his wife for her. She is the type of lover who wakes her man up with breakfast in bed, a pedicure and massage while he watches football, but will over turn a table of food and drinks in public if she is pushed to the wall. Bidemi is a surprisingly good and dedicated mother.
