Simon Jersey

Simon Jersey is a specialist corporate uniform and work wear company, based in the town of Accrington in Lancashire. It supplies uniforms to national and global brands, such as McDonalds, Halfords, Sodexo, InterContinental Hotels Group, P&O Cruises, and the NHS. The company also gained international recognition for the uniforms it designed for Emirates.
The company was founded in 1971, and since January 2014 has been owned by David Ross, the co-founder of Carphone Warehouse.
Simon Jersey will be Team GB’s formal wear provider for the Olympics in Rio, Brazil 2016 and will also provide the team’s clothing for the closing ceremony of the games.
History
The company was established in 1971 by Simon Moyle, a local entrepreneur in the traditional textile town of Accrington, Lancashire. Moyle started the company after he was asked by a local pub to design their staff uniform. Using the experience gained from his fashion retail outlets, he began to design work wear, in an attempt to challenge the idea that uniforms should just be functional.
In 1990, Simon Jersey outgrew their offices, and commissioned Hebden Bridge architectural firm Studio Baad to design new offices in Altham, Lancashire. The building has been described as "one of the most contemporary buildings of its generation".
In 2002, Simon Jersey became part of Mercatura Holding GmbH & Co K, a European division of the Quelle group of retail and mail-order companies. Mercatura were then acquired in 2007 by the Swedish corporate work wear provider S Kwintet AB Europes.
In January 2014 Simon Jersey was acquired by Carphone Warehouse entrepreneur David Ross. Ross said of the takeover: “The Simon Jersey brand has over 40 years’ experience serving both the UK and international markets… It has a strong reputation for innovative garment design, and with our experience, we believe we can improve the performance of the business further by building on this reputation, and allowing the team to be totally committed to putting customers first in every decision.”
In September 2014 it was announced that Simon Jersey would be the official supplier to Team GB for the opening and closing ceremony formal wear for Rio 2016. This was the first time that the contract had been awarded to a uniform provider, with previous suppliers including high street retailer Next and London tailor Oliver Brown.
