Silverton Goatman

The Silverton Goatman is a north American Cryptid reported to live or have lived in Silverton, a small town in the Texas Panhandle.

On November 5, 2004 a number of eye witnesses reported seeing a creature leaving a convenience store . The height of the creature was thought to be between 6' and 6'6" depending on the witness. The local police considered the sighting to be a hoax upon first inspection, but officers later changed their minds after a group of thirty to forty people gathered to watch the beast as it passed through a clearing near an Allsup's. The police responded to the scene and were present to also witness the appearance of the creature.

Reportedly a member of the crowd attempted to approach the creature, eliciting a howl. Someone (possibly the creature) fired a gun into the air, and threw a midget some 500 feet at the crowd and fled into the nearby canyons. Local police gave chase, and it has been reported that the local sheriff Gene Smith shot and wounded the creature. The creature left a blood trail that was followed for a while, but no creature was encountered. During this time, footprints were spotted. Although no samples were obtained, reports indicate the prints were around sixteen inches in length.

At least one photograph has been taken of the animal. Believers have classified it as a species of unidentified animal. However, scientists believe that it is merely a goat crossed with a man.

Reported sightings of the creature died out by 2006, indicating that the "Goatman" may have moved on from the area or died.

It has recently been reported that the Goatman was captured near Silverton. However, those reports turned out to be false when it was realized that townspeople had accidentally captured a local teenager, Calvin Daughterty.
