In music games, a sightread is a term used to indicate that the player is performing the song for the first time, and has not seen the note chart for that song. This entails that the player has not ever attempted the song, seen someone play the song, or has seen a video of the song.
Often, a sightread is used as a control to the players abilities to show change in their performance in that song over time. Thus, a sightread is an important moment for many players. Occasionally, one may earn a full combo (or "FC") on a song. In that case, the player has great skill, and has no need to replay the song other than for purposes such as recreation. Additionally, in some music games, it is possible to attain a higher score than the original 100% or full combo score. In games such as , choosing alternate variable paths, such as Star Power, can have a large impact on score.
