Shri Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur

Shri Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur (1899-1983), also known as "Babuji Maharaj", was born on April 30, 1899 in Shahjahanpur, a town in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. His father, Rai Bahadur Saheb, was a lawyer.

One of the family member of Mahatma Shri Ram Chandra ji Maharaj was a Mir Munshi at Akbar’s Court. He had the title of ‘Bugara’ holding a big estate. One of his decendents, Bakshi Kundan Lal, was the Chief of the Army and was killed in the battle between Nawab Rahmat Ullah Khan and Shujauddaulah. After a lapse of fifty years, Diwan Shadi Lal, the grandson of Bakshi Saheb and Great Grand Father of Shri Ram Chandra was appointed as Diwan to the Nawab of Shahjahanpur. His son late Shri Janki Prasad who is the grand-father of Shri Ram Chandra joined the Civil Court under the British Rule. His son Shri Badri Prasad, the father of Shri Ram Chandra was born in 1867. He studied law and became a First Class Special Magistrate during British rule. In 1929 he was awarded the title of Rai Bahadur. He was a scholar, historian and researched Lord Krishna’s lineage and published his research work in urdu.

His wife, Shri Ram Chandra's mother, was a simple and pious lady.

Shri Ram Chandra is the Founder of the Shri Ram Chandra Mission, registered in India in 1945. He named it after his Master, Shri Ram Chandra of Fatehgarh.

He passed away Aug. 14, 1983.
