The Shot Off Posse (also known as, the SOP or simply, the Posse.) is a criminal organization of about 60-80 members and associates based in and around Memphis, Tennessee. Founded in the early 2000s, the Shot Off Posse began to surface in the methamphetamine market as a major distributor to the Mid-South area of the United States. Other activities include extortion, gambling, loansharking, prostitution, and counterfeiting. According to law enforcement sources, The Shot Off Posse is becoming well organized with a structured hierarchy far beyond that of a common street gang. Official or "certified" members receive a tattoo on their upper back with the letters S.O.P. as an initiation rite, immediately after or while being "blessed in" as a full member.
