Shokolat

Shokolat is a contemporary British composer and pianist. His real name is Kayvan Shokrollahi, and he uses the pseudonym to separate his musical activities from his professional work as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

Music

Shokolat (Official site) is the alter-ego of a doctor who trained at the University of Bristol UK, graduating in 1999 and who now specialises in Burns and Plastic Surgery. He also holds degrees in Engineering, Law, and Molecular Pathology and was awarded a Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His other great passion is music, and he began playing the piano at an early age.

His music is characterised by atmospheric melody, written in a classic style with a modern twist. Whilst staying true to classical music roots, the music appelas to a more diverse audience through powerful and poignant melodies. Always keen to draw in a younger audience to provide young pianists with inspiration to play and compose, he is keen to collaborate with modern musicians from all genres. His cello music is especially poignant, and he has recently collaborated with acclaimed cellist Yoshika Masuda. Although the majority of Shokolat's music is his own, he has recorded a number of classical pieces including Chopin, Beethoven and the virtuoso piece "Asturias" by Isaac Albeniz.

His music is recorded on Bosendorfer Imperial and Stuart and Sons Pianos and is available in the form of CDs and Sheet music from the official website and a number of retailers including Amazon and iTunes
