Shlumpadinka

The term "shlumpadinika" was coined by Oprah Winfrey to describe women (particularly housewives) who have given up on trying to make themselves look fashionable. These women typically go around wearing sweat suits or sweat pants, and they put minimal effort into fixing their hair and doing their makeup. Oprah says she knows a shlumpadinka when she sees one. "I made this word up a long time ago," she says. "It represents, for me, a woman who dresses like she has completely given up...and it shows." Though the description of a shlumpadinka may sound derogatory, the term has been co-opted by many women who identify themselves (with a humorous tone) as shlumpadinkas. Through Oprah's popularization of this term, many women have come to self-identify as shlumpadinkas, and through Oprah's inspiration, these women have joined the campaign to "give up the frump."
