Sherry Dooley is an American artist from Portland, Oregon currently working in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is noted for her symbolism and activism as a survivor of human trafficking. Early Life Sherry was born to alcoholic drifters and was quickly placed for adoption shortly after her birth. After twelve foster homes she was adopted at the age of three. Strife was always on the horizon, until her early teen years when she ran away from home and spent four years as a victim of human trafficking in the Portland, Oregon area. Art Career Using symbols, such as crows, spirals, linear lines, thick texture, dunce hats and queen crowns, my work unfolds into a magical, metaphorical female realm. My women are dealing with life, love, sorrow, deep thought, joy and the challenges of learning lessons. One might comment “but she’s just sitting there?” and my reply to that is, “Have you looked into her eyes?” Dooley is represented by Backwoods Gallery in El Dorado, Arkansas and has had work shown at Peter O'Neill's Gallery in St. Augustine, Florida and Gallery Orange in New Orleans, Louisiana.
