Sheila June Nezhad

Sheila June Nezhad is a community organizer. She was a Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party candidate for mayor of Minneapolis in the 2021 election. The Minnesota DFL did not endorse a candidate in the race, but Nezhad came the closest, with 53% of the vote after the final round of ranked-choice voting. She made policing a central focus of her campaign. Biography Nezhad’s father is an Iranian immigrant and her mother is of Anishinaabe, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry. She was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and raised in Woodbury, Minnesota. She earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota-Morris and a master's degree in development practice from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She identifies as queer. |
