</noinclude> Shaun Shane ( a pseudonym real name unknown, estimated d.o.b date 196?- ) American Poet. Though primarily known for his poetry, Shane also played in the lead role of iconic American director John Waters' ( Shane's close and long time friend) black & white short film Reckless Eyeballs 1985. Shane, who only published between the period of 1980-1991 before abandoning public life and going into reclusion, is known for his emphasis on minimalism and his " less is more " philosophy of poetry, as well as, his rejection of the ethic of Art for Art's sake : " The purpose of Art is to be revelatory and integrated into one's understanding of living and the world. Outside of that, it is purely ornamental. " Resurgence and exposure to a wider audience of Shane's work came about when Pulitzer Prize winning Poet Tracy Smith featured Shane's now famous poem " Tongues Made of Glass " on her social media outlets in 2011. Resulting in it's viral propagation on the internet and it then subsequently being featured by Artists, Politicians, Religious Groups and Human Rights Organizations around the World, like the Invisible Children and the NSPCC on their respective social media sites such as Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and Twitter.
