Sharon Keenan (8 May 1948 - 30 September 2017) was a London and Bath-based painter and sculptor. She lived in London, from where most of her work was commissioned. She retired to Combe Down, near Bath in Somerset, where she was involved with the UK Council of the American Museum in Bath. Education and work Educated at the Harrow School of Art & Design Jewellery Department, Keenan also trained in classical art, learning about portraiture and sculpture. On leaving college she specialized in portraiture, and focused on moving into the film industry by working for Berman & Nathans, the costume designers and suppliers to theatres and film companies. Her knowledge of antiques and art helped her move into the media industry when she was asked to appear on the TV series "Going for a Song" as a panel expert. She had wide experience as a design consultant in the applied arts worked in the TV and the film industry on sets such as the Hammer Horror series. She drew the portrait picture as it changed for the feature film, The Picture of Dorian Grey. Art work and exhibitions Best known for her sculptural portraits including Captain Cook, Eleanor Roosevelt of which the bust of Eleanor Roosevelt was centerpiece in St Paul's Cathedral human rights year exhibition where she was awarded first prize. She has exhibited at The Royal Academy, The Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers in London, and The Society of Portrait Sculptors (awarded 1st prize), and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Her clients have included The City of London, The Army Reserve (previously The Territorial Army), Selfridges, Loctite, and Fortnum & Mason. There are also some exhibition heads including one of Anne Boleyn created by her at Hever Castle. Public commissions Among her public commissions were those for The City of London, Kilmarnock City Council, The Territorial Army and the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, for which she sculpted the statue of Admiral George Rooke situated on Gibraltar’s Devil’s Tongue Battery. Sharon also designed and built the float that appeared in the Lord Mayor of London show procession for Sir Murray Fox on the occasion of appointment as Lord Mayor. Commercial work She has also completed commissions for The Honourable Company of Master Mariners, Loctite International, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Madam Tussauds, and Royal Doulton (Ships Figurehead Series). The Chartered Institute of Marketing, and The East India Club have also commissioned her work.
