Shannon Braithwaite

Shannon Braithwaite was a teenaged girl from Brooklyn, New York who was fatally stabbed more than 30 times by her then-15-year-old cousin, Tiana Browne on September 30, 2008. Police and relatives believed that the motive for Shannon's murder was Tiana's jealousy of Shannon's designer shoes, electronic gadgets, and success in school.
Early Life
Shannon Braithwaite a 16-year-old who lived in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. She was a sophomore and a straight-A student at Vanguard High School on the Upper East Side. She worked at the Brooklyn Children's Museum and was active in the family's church. Her aunt, Marilyn Braithwaite, described her as "a good child. She loved to dance." Just two days before Shannon was murdered in her home, her 17-year-old third cousin Tiana Browne, who was a runaway, came to stay with her family. She had run away from home several times before. Prosecutors however alleged that the killing of Shannon Braithwaite was intentional and motivated by jealousy. Tiana's ex-boyfriend Louie Walker testified how on the night of the murder, Tiana was wearing Shannon's clothes and was in possession of Shannon's belongings. His mother gave corroborating testimony. Marva Braithwaite again testified in this trial. She now admitted her criminal past, and stated that her experience as a reformed convict convinced her that she could help her troubled niece.
