Shani Calyaneratne Karunaratne

Shani Calyaneratne Kurunaratne (born December 19, 1962) is a Sri Lankan diplomat. She is the current Sri Lankan Deputy Ambassador to China,.
On 24 January 2019, China conferred a special award and a title Silk Road Super Ambassador to Karunaratne in honor of her outstanding contribution to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Early life and education
Karunaratne was born on 19 December 1962 in Badulla, Sri Lanka to Hemalatha Kariyawasam Clyaneratne (née Kariyawasam) and statistician Enduruwegama Gurusinghe Dayananda Calyaneratne. Her maternal grandfather, Enduruwegama Gurusinghe Barrington Calyaneratne, was the first Sri Lankan Water works Engineer.
Karunaratne attended Musaeus College, Visakha Vidyalaya and graduated from El Paso High School, El Paso, Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Peradeniya in 1994.
