Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman with Six Fingers

Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman with Six Fingers is an upcoming biographical film of the famous Mexican Revolutionary general , partially influenced by James Baker's 1996 book "The Firends of Pancho Villa" by the renown Serbian award-winning filmmaker Emir Kusturica, starring Javier Bardem, Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz. Johnny Depp's role was hinted, but not confirmed. The film's date of release is not yet known, but 2011 is hinted.
Idea
After the partial success at the biography Maradona of the Argentine football player Diego Maradona, Emir Kusturica decided for a bigger challange. He spent some time in Venice, where he was a guest at the wedding of the famous Mexican actress Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez and French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, when Hayak accepted the offer of main cast in Kusturica's new movie. Arrangements for the movie were then made, and Kusturica had talks also with Penélope Cruz Sánchez and Javier Ángel Encinas Bardem, who will together with Hayek compose the main cast of Kusturica's new movie. According to Kusturica's own words, he was impressed by the legendary figure of Pancho Villa since his collage days frome the 1970s in the Czechoslovak Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Screenplay
The film is significantly based upon the 1996 work of the deceased American writer James Carlos Baker known as "The Friends of Pancho Villa", which is a romanticized biography of the Mexian national hero, presented through the eyes of his lieutenant Rodolfo Fierro and relying on historical facts. Kusturica's close long-term cooperate will write it into the screenplay.
Cast
Aside Javier Bardem, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz, a role will be offered to the famous Holywood star John Christopher Depp II. Depp already has before cooperated with Kusturica, starring the main character of Kusturica's 1993 successful award-winning film Arizona Dream. One of their other public acts was playing together with Jim Jarmusch as special musical fest guests in 1992 along with the Party Breakers in 1992 in the Student Cultural Center of Belgrade, in specific the "Hold, Johnny" song, after which Depp addressed the public in Serbian. Emir Kusturica is currently in Puerto Rico, negotiating with Johnny Depp on his potential cast in the film.
Production
The film is currently in the pre-production phase. According to Emir Kusturica, the filming is to start by the end of 2009. 2011 has been suggested as the latest possible date of release. The filming will take place in Mexico, Spain and Serbia, in specific, Mokra Gora.
