Security Essentials 2010

Security Essentials 2010 or Trojan:Win32/Fakeinit is a rogue security software package. Its name is deliberately chosen to be similar to the free Microsoft Security Essentials product to confuse and trick consumers into installing the malware.
Once installed, the malware installs a Layered Service Provider that intercepts network traffic, blocking access to a number of websites, including Windows Update. It lowers system security settings, changes the wallpaper and installs the Alureon rootkit. The malware attempts to extort money by popping up false messages of virus infections that it claims can only be cleaned through purchasing a more featured version of the product.
