Second presidency of Donald Trump, 2025, 2nd quarter

The 2nd quarter of President Trump's second term runs from April 20 to July 20, 2025.
Tariffs
On May 2, the tariff loophole expired for packages $800 and less. This is expected to particularly affect customers of the large Chinese retailers Shein and Temu. In addition, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be responsible for the inspection of millions of new packages. On April 30, President Trump described this loophole as “a big scam going on against our country, against really small businesses.”
Cabinet changes
On May 1, President Trump announced that Mike Waltz would be leaving his position as National Security Advisor and would become the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Waltz had been criticized in the weeks leading up to this change for accidentally including a journalist on the message app Signal in a high-level discussion about a military strike on the Houthi rebels.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio would temporarily take on the duties of National Security Advisor alongside his normal duties.<ref name="AP, Trump nominates Mike Waltz, May 1, 2025"/>
