Sean Frederick Forbes (born January 17, 1981) is an American poet and writer. He is an Assistant Professor-in-Residence of English and the Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Connecticut. Forbes serves on the Board of Directors for the , a NY-based nonprofit organization that promotes multicultural literature and literacy. He is also the series editor of 2LP EXPLORATIONS IN DIVERSITY for 2Leaf Press. Life Forbes was born in Heidelberg, Germany. He is the only child of Hermes Delano Forbes, a former Sergeant Major in the United States Army and Teresa Mercedes Robinson. He has a sister, Rose Marie Forbes-Kharma, from his father’s previous marriage. After his parents’ divorce, he was raised by his mother, aunt, uncle, and maternal grandparents in Saint Albans, Queens. He identifies as Afro-Latino and connects to the Afro-Caribbean diaspora. His maternal and paternal grandparents and mother were born on the island of Providencia, Colombia. Forbes graduated from Queens College, The City University of New York where he was an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Connecticut. His work has appeared in Crab Orchard Review, Poem-A-Day by the Academy of American Poets, and on WNPR with John Dankosky on a feature titled "The Art and Power of Poetry."
