CHARACTERS
PETE
DJ and dancer Pete O'Gaire has buckets of charm, a lazy streak a mile wide, and a gift for talking his way out of trouble. Even when he's shopped to the police due to his fondness for growing illegal substances. His irresponsibility doesn't worry him too much, until he falls head first for straight-talking Eithne. The fact that she nearly gets expelled because of a stunt he pulls in a 'borrowed' car is a little bit of an obstacle to his hopes. Pete spends the rest of the term trying to prove to the lovely Eithne that he's the bloke for her. What he gets for his troubles is a whole heap of misunderstandings.
CAROLINE
Caroline sings and plays cello like an angel, and looks like one. Exquisite, gentle, unsure of herself, easily pushed around - Caroline is a little out of her depth. She is completely, unwisely, crazy about Brian and naïve enough to think that he'll stick around after one night. Her tendency to play sidekick to Joanne isn't too clever either, but Caroline often doesn't see things until it's too late. Like the love of the man who's right in front of her. She's confused, unworldly, and in danger of letting her crush on Brian become an obsession.
BRIAN
Brian Joyce on the other hand is a self-confessed dirtbag and serial shagger. Women, he loves. Relationships, he runs a mile from. Which is fine because he's straight about it. The group Alpha Male and a very talented musician, Brian enjoys putting himself out there but hates being the butt of a joke. Which he is, way more often than he realises. Brian's salvation is that he's not afraid of hard graft. And his need to succeed his driven by his status as a loser in the eyes of his family. He's also a funny bastard.
EITHNE
Eithne is in no hurry to let Pete off the hook. In fact, she enjoys watching him sweat. A gifted singer with little time for messing, Eithne got to the Academy the hard way and is determined to do well here. But she needs to drop the guard a bit, let bygones go, and admit the fact that she secretly fancies the arse off Pete. Because the poor guy won't hang around forever.
DECKO
Decko has a voice that puts everyone else in the shade, and a self-esteem problem that keeps him out of the limelight. He's shy with the girls, crippled by doubts about his body image, and oblivious to the fact he needs to snap out of it. He's mistakenly jealous of the handsome and promiscuous Brian, while the predatory advances of his 'lonely' landlady throws him into a spin. But it's his heart-breaking, unrequited love for the willowy Caroline, who turns out to not be quite as innocent as she looks, that finally brings him to his senses.
JOANNE
Joanne Crosbie is trouble (so's her mother Leah). Vampish, wickedly funny, spoilt silly, Joanne has her sights set on the big stage. And she's ambitious enough to pull it off. The only thing she doesn't have, is talent. Which is a bit of a problem. Seducing a tutor is one way of making up for it, although she's not the only one with that plan. This is a girl who excels at getting who, and what, she wants, but she also has an unexpected quality. Back bone. And if Joanne Crosbie is going to fail, she'll do so in her own flamboyant fashion.
LINDA
For a girl who likes speaking the truth, Linda Donovan is hiding a lot of secrets and lies. Her sexuality she doesn't conceal, and one enthusiastic snog with the girlfriend temporarily brings the bar to a standstill. It's everything else she has problems with. Linda goes to the Academy to escape her over-bearing, infuriating father - who has a habit of reappearing. She's terrified of people discovering her identity, and she battles with a serious crush on her room mate and best friend, Eithne. Fiery, loyal, and usually crushingly honest - Linda is a good girl going through a bad time.
