Scott Mingus

Scott L. Mingus, Sr. (born August 15, 1956) is an internationally recognized, award-winning miniature wargamer and gamemaster, prolific American Civil War author, and the publisher of a leading wargaming magazine. He and his wife Debi are the co-founders of the Johnny Reb Gaming Society, the largest international wargaming society devoted to gaming the American Civil War.

Scott Mingus was born in Zanesville, Ohio, to Robert Earl and Mary (Williams) Mingus. Coming from a long military family, his father had been a aircraft mechanic during the Second World War in the European Theatre, and later helped develop Scott's love for history, especially the Civil War. Growing up in East Fultonham, Ohio, Scott enjoyed playing sports and studying history. At Maysville Senior High School, Mingus was active in sports. Following a devasting defeat his last football game his senior year, he met Deborah Lynn Ferrell from Zanesville, whom he married May 21, 1977.

Two years later, Mingus moved to Painesville, Ohio, where he accepted a job working in the lab of the Avery Dennison. The couple raised three children, Scott Jr., Tom, and Melissa in Painesville and later in Mentor and Perry. In mid-July 2001, Mingus moved to York, Pennsylvania, to take a management position with the P.H. Glatfelter Company as Global Director of Research and Development. He authored a number of leading wargaming scenario books, including the two-volume set Enduring Valor: Gettysburg in Miniature, the popularly acclaimed Undying Courage: Antietam in Miniature, Crossed Sabers, and Touched With Fire, as well as establishing and editing , which became the leading publication for Civil War miniature wargamers.

In 2003, Mingus's family expanded with the marriage of his son, Scott Jr., to Rebecca Ellen Godbey of Ashland, Kentucky. Not long afterwards, Mingus began writing articles for Civil War magazines. In 2005, he introduced his first non-wargaming book entitled, Human Interest Stories of the Gettysburg Campaign. Following this came other books, Human Interest Stories of the Antieam Campaign (2007), and Human Interest Stories of the Gettysburg Campaign, Volume 2 (2007). In early 2008, his first full-length work, Flames Beyond the Susquehanna: The Gordon Expedition, June 1863, will be published by Ironclad Publishing, and another wargaming scenario book, Brothers Divided, will be published by Marek/Janci Design.
