Anand Mehotra and Sattva Yoga
Sattva Yoga was founded and developed in Rishikesh, India, the birthplace of yoga, in 2000 by Master Teacher Anand Mehrotra. Anand began sharing the Sattva teachings with students in the West in 2004.
Sattva Yoga is a discipline and style of yoga. It includes ancient yogic techniques as well as current evolutionary practices to create a clear path for the individual to experience a full, healthy, abundant, joyous life, and to attain self-realization. Sattva Yoga is an ever-evolving and inclusive practice of meditation, kriya, asana, movement, pranayama, radical aliveness, and timeless wisdom. Sattva Yoga is freedom, movement, depth, stillness, transcendence, joy, compassion, grace, and truth. In Sanskrit, Sattva means whole, complete, balance, and literally essence or truth. That is the path of Sattva Yoga. Sattva Yoga is ancient and fresh at the same time. There is a soft heart with a fierce, strong spine. There is sincerity and humor. Sattva Yoga is a complete path to create an experience of wholeness in the individual and the collective.
Sattva Yoga is the experience of non-duality, where both stillness and movement exist at the same time. Sattva yoga conveys the precepts of Vedanta Philosophy, the philosophy of Oneness.
Sattva Yoga is the experiencing and sharing of liberation and freedom on every level of our existence. It is coming together for that common purpose and to end conflict in our lives. Sattva Yoga includes and transcends all branches of yoga, it is simultaneously a whole and a part, and by this fact of the coming together a new layer of intelligence is occurring. Sattva Yoga absorbs ever new ways of being. Sattva Yoga is alive.
On the path of Sattva Yoga, individuals live life as a practice. A Sattva Yogi is always a student, even as a teacher. A Sattva Yogi is committed to the path, a sincere practitioner.
Sattva Yoga is a way of living by example.
Sattva Yoga cares deeply about coming together to have a sense of community of truth, a sense of sacred relationship within community. The community can be stronger than individuals when we tap into each other's capacity to evolve. Sattva Yoga also cares deeply about environmental consciousness; Sattva Yogis have a sense of responsibility for our planet and all creatures, a deep compassion for all beings. Sattva Yoga was
Rameen Peyrow and SATTVA Yoga
The SATTVA School of Yoga and SATTVA Yoga was founded by Rameen Peyrow as a formal practice of yoga and inspired by a long and ancient lineage of yogic masters. Rameen founded his practice out of one question ("Who am I"), one seat (the seat of meditation), and one mantra (AUM) to point the practitioner onto the spiritual path. Rameen's inspiration for SATTVA Yoga drew upon his roots in meditation - a practice he was initiated into at the age of 5 - and his personal journey with the practices and methods of yoga under the study of his teachers over decades. Out of this came a discipline that was a merging of two ancient paths, Hatha Yoga (the yoga of force or action) and Raja Yoga (the royal yoga focusing on concentration, meditation and absorption). The combination of these two ancient practices culminated in the practice of SATTVA Yoga: a method of cleansing body, breath and mind to attain a state of balance and connect to an authentic experience of self. This is met through physical postures, breathing, meditation and lifestyle, and grounded within the understanding that the practice of self-realization is the most authentic practice of yoga one can ever find.
