Education
Ejiama studied at the University of Exeter where she was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Evolutionary Biology in 2011 supervised by David Hosken. She completed her postgraduate study at the University of Bath where she was awarded a MRes in Regenerative Medicine in 2012 for research on Stem Cells supervised by Makoto Furutani-Seiki.
Career and research
Ejiama started her career as a Research Assistant with Richard Marais’s laboratory at the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute where she contributed to early research into Skin Cancer on Melanoma in Manchester in 2012.
Her research work looked into the analysis of Melanoma and other Cancer cells providing integrated care opportunities for patients in the long-term. Her work in 2014 on ‘Ultraviolet radiation accelerating BRAF-driven melanomagenesis by targeting TP53' informs the understanding in this clinical area with regards to Melanoma. This study expressed BRAF in melanocytes of adolescent mice at physiologic levels mimicking the acquisition of mutation in humans. She also contributed to the research on paradox-breaking RAF inhibitors that also target SRC on how they are effective in drug resistant BRAF mutant Melanoma.
Ejiama’s further research work with Richard Marais including others on why sunscreens do not fully protect against the development of Melanoma on mice helped to draw awareness on humans.
