Sanlam Challenge Shield

The Sanlam Challenge Shield was a Rugby challenge held between Saracens Rugby Union and South African opponents. The main objective of the challenge was to provide stiff preseason warm-up for both participating teams as well as new experience in different conditions for South African teams. The Sanlam Challenge Shield was presented to the winner of the challenge.
The first challenge was held between the Sharks and Saracens . Overall the Sanlam Challenge was held 3 times and only the managed to beat the Saracens. The Saracens - Blue Bulls match was broadcast live in the UK and in South Africa, with an estimated tv audience of 450,000.
