Sameer Goswami

Sameer Goswami, a politician, is a member of the Indian National Congress. He is General Secretary for Buxwaha Tehsil of INC. He is also a businessman and was formerly a partner of Computer Care & Ware, which he founded with Shailendra Singh. Goswami has a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Govt. Polytechnic, Nowgong, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya.

Apart from his other activities, Goswami is very concerned about the present-day situation of extreme distress of Bundelkhand. Hunger and malnutrition exist on a massive scale. The overwhelming majority of people are living on staple cereal with salt and chutney. The availability of pulses, vegetables and milk has declined heavily. Many of them can’t get enough of even roti and salt to be able to fill their stomachs. Many of the people have only one meal a day. These are long standing conditions of under-nutrition, chronic hunger and malnutrition, which frame the current debate on ‘hunger deaths‘.

The distressful conditions of the Bundelkhand region have been further aggravated by the drought which has continued for the last three years.

"It is true that Bundelkhand is passing through adverse weather conditions, but the extreme distress that exists today can still be avoided. The road from despair to hope exists; we have to start traversing it slowly yet steadily."- Sameer Goswami

Sameer Goswami recently led a public march to bring the destitution of Bundelkhand into the public eye throughout the country. This was a very successful event which forced the politicians and economists to pay attention to the plight of the common man in Bundelkhand.
