Salvation Army Hough Center

The Salvation Army Hough Center is a large community facility located in the Hough neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.
Facilities
The facilities include a swimming pool, a boxing ring, a roller skating rink, a small library, a computer room, a large gymnasium, and a large child care facility. There is a daily soup kitchen and weekly Christian church services.
History
The building was erected in response to the Hough Riots of 1966. In response to this devastation, the Salvation Army made a decision to construct a new multi-purpose center at Hough & East 59th Street. A team of Salvation Army staff and community workers confronted the many obstacles that remained and developed comprehensive programs that in its initial years had a registered membership of over 10,000 individuals. With over a thousand people a day coming through its doors, the Hough Corps was an inner city ministry that became a national model.
Today, the Hough Corps Community Center continues to help those who are hungry, addicted, require day care for their children, are experiencing problems at school, or are in need of spiritual healing. "
At the building's dedication Mayor Carl B. Stokes stood in the gymnasium and stated "This building represents a part of our city that was virtually written off. It stands as a physical affirmation of the faith of The Salvation Army in our community, serving as a hub around which the process of rehabilitation can begin and develop in many lives."
25 September marks the 40 year anniversary of the centres opening with guest speaker Madeline Manning a gold & silver Olympic medallist in track also founder and president of the United States Council for Sports Chaplaincy.
