Saint Chot (1900-1988) is one of the earliest known direct master-disciples of Swami Sivananda , having lived with Sivananda in Rishikesh from 1939 to 1945, at a period somewhat earlier than other, more well-known disciple swamis. Saint Chot mastered yoga's highest forms while living in Rishikesh with Swami Sivananda. Chot most notably practiced, researched and refined the prevalent pre-war Rishikesh style and, after relocating to post-war Thailand, developed a kind of "classical vernacular" yoga style infused with Southeast Asian ascetic-arts features. The result was a highly poetic hybrid disburdened of superfluous cultural accretions. Saint Chot was an unrivaled authority on the therapeutic science of yoga and placed a high value on yoga's profound healing qualities. At around the age of 75 years, Saint Chot gave everything to teaching and healing, and rarely left his private ashram where he peacefully died in 1988.
