Sacred Gin

Sacred Gin is a microdistillery gin produced in Highgate, North London, using 12 different botanicals including Juniper, Cardamom, Nutmeg, and Boswellia Sacra (aka Hougary Frankincense) from which the product name is derived. Following on from the emerging trend in the United States for microdistillery vodkas, it is the first microdistillery of its kind in the United Kingdom.
Because it is distilled under a reduced pressure and hence much reduced temperature, the resulting taste is claimed to be fresher by comparison to other gins where the terpenes and other related flavours have been damaged by heat. Distillation is achieved at 52 deg C, instead of the more usual 85 deg C.
The recipe claims to be based on a formula from the time of the Dutch Gift of 1660, when Charles II of England was returned to the throne after the English Interregnum - the Restoration.
The low distillation temperature is claimed to contribute a fresh, creamy and aromatic quality to the finished product, whilst still being recognisable as a Juniper based Gin. It is distributed in North London only at present.
It uses a dark purple label with a gold leaf embossed crown as a logo.
UK Regulation
The UK Government regulates distilleries to a high degree and currently does not distinguish its treatment of distilleries in terms of size. This stringent regulation has prevented microdistilling from developing as rapidly as microbrewing which enjoys relatively more relaxed government control. Licenses are required for rectifying, compounding and also storage of spirits in duty suspension.
