Ryan Malloy is a fictional character portrayed by Kevin Connolly in the American sitcom Unhappily Ever After which ran on The WB from 1995 to 1999.
Biography Ryan is the first born of Jack and Jennie Malloy, he was an accident as Jack had impregnated Jennie when they were teenagers forcing them to get married in February 1978 3 months prior to Ryan's birth. He is often treated scornfully by his parents who see him as Ryan as hopeless and the reason why the ended up together. He attended Priddy High for 5 years as he got left back his senior year and graduated in the class of 1997 alonside his sister Tiffany. He attended the Northridge Junior College alongside Tiffany and Barbara.
Personality Ryan has an excessive optimistic personality despite being lashed out by his parents, being unpopular at school and the fairer sex and being stupid and has no motivation to get good grades or have a work ethic. He can be selfish and lazy sometimes and often does strange things such as collecting urine under his bed. He is often in the shadow of his sister Tiffany, who is his polar-opposite. Yet he is the most well-adjusted member of the family and is rather happy of his life. He is shown to be girl-crazy and will go to great lengths to impress a girl and to score yet often unsucessful.
Ryan's Stupidity Ryan represents the stereotypical idiot character that can be found in countless television series. Ryan is very simple-minded and has a sweet child-like innocence to him and is easily fooled or manipulated. His foolish actions are often ridiculed by his parents and siblings. He is shown as hopelessly stupid without any chance of intellectual ability whatsoever, and is unable to retain musch information over long periods of time. He is often will says stupid things and malapropisms for comical effect and says the wrong things at the wrong time, such as if he tries to console someone he often ends up insulting them though unintentional not out of malice. He is shown to have stupidity as far back as a toddler as he didn't get fully potty-trained until he was 8.
Appearance Ryan has auburn hair and hazel eyes. He dresses in typical teenage clothing of the '90s, In Ligtning Boy he wears a superhero costume with tights and a cape.
Ryan's Room Ryan's room is the typical room of a teenager of the '90s having posters of rock bands and artists his room is very messy and cluttered which symbolizes his cluttered mind.
Relationships
*Jack and Jennie: Jack and Jennie are often indifferent towards Ryan. Though Jennie is concerned about his outragous behavior, Jack is more tolerant and understanding towards Ryan and tells Jennie it just a phase or not to worry about him. Jennie is completely annoyed by Ryan and tells him to study and or get a job though she just can't get through to him. Though when Ryan is upset they will try to cheer him up or pretend to agree with him simply to humor him.
*Tiffany: Tiffany often taunts Ryan with her good grades and often will make fun of his stupidity and lack of discipline. The two are typical siblings they fight, argue and annoy each other though they will help each other out when neccessary.
*Ross: Ryan is often annoys Ross. Ross often enjoys sowing misconceptions in his head and enjoys his misfortune. Thoough the two often do activities together and have a brotherly relationship.
*Other: Ryan is portrayed as socially inept and has very few friends. He often tries to score with a girl though is usually unsucessful. He had dated all of Tiffany's rivals Patty, Sable and Barbara, though neither lasted. He is later able to get one night stands in the series later seasons.
