Rowan Taylor

Rowan Taylor (1927-2005), recognized as one of the most prolific composers of all time by Who's Who in the World, was born in California to parents of Norwegian decent. It is said that Taylor never went to bed without completing a musical composition until the very end of his life. With a stunning 265 symphonies, 46 concertos, 2,502 songs and hundreds of other compositions, Taylor established his authority as a composer of historic significance.

In his youth, Taylor played string bass under Leopold Stokowski, Thor Johnson and Nicolai Malko. He studied composition with Lukas Foss, Leroy Robertson, Leon Dallin, Carl Fuerstner, Crawford Gates, and John Vincent. During his long career he achieved high profession success and was listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who In The World, Who’s Who In America, Who’s Who In The West, and Who’s Who In American Education. He is also listed in Five Thousand Personalities Of The World, The International Register Of Profiles, Personalities of America, International Who’s Who Of Contemporary Achievement, International Register Of Biography, and other such publications.

He has conducted many orchestras, including the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, The Burbank Symphony, The Westwood Symphony, The Los Angeles Civic Orchestra, The New Valley Symphony Orchestra, The Deseret Opera Guild, The East Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra etc. He also directed a chorus of over 900 men.

For many years he worked as a professor of music composition at the Los Angeles Pierce College, educating some of the finest American composers. In 2003 he was voted as the third most admired professor in the United States.
