Roosterball

Roosterball:
The American game of Roosterball originated in Las Vegas, Nevada. A combination of tetherball and soccer, Roosterball is played on a grassy field with two large poles (known as “spurs”) on opposite ends of the field. The objective of the game is to move the ball to the opposing spur, tie the ball to the six foot tether and wrap the ball around the pole using only your feet. Each time your team successfully wraps the ball all the around the spur, you are rewarded a goal.
Like soccer, the game is played mostly with your feet, however in this game, your goalkeeper is positioned by your spur on the opposite side of your field in a six foot safe circle, called the wattle . Once you move the ball (with your feet) to your “goal” you must get the ball into the hands of your goalie, who then ties the ball to the tether. Opposing players may not enter the wattle once the goalie has possession. Once the ball is tethered, the goalie gently swings the ball towards a player on their team who has one chance to kick (volley) the ball hard enough to wrap it around the spur. If the player fails to wrap the ball around the tether, the opposing team gains possession and re-starts play with a goal-kick, anywhere within the wattle.
A Roosterball match typically lasts sixty minutes with a ten-minute half time. The game is still fairly new and it’s popularity is growing as tournaments around the country are being organized.
