Early life (1973-1996)
Barrera was the youngest of four and born to a Spanish mother Gloria Solis and son of a French & Spanish big band and orchestra leader of BARRERA and actor Arnie Barrera in 1973 in the city of Riverside, California. He spent his early life in the suburbs of Corona, CA just outside of the Orange County line; at 4 his mother was diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder that had left her mute and bed ridden for the next 12 years of his life. He discovered great interests in baseball where he soon became a member of one of the leagues annual all stars. At 10 his mother was moved to a convent, barrera unsupervised for most of his youth he was able to ride his bike in empty swimming pools in and around his neighborhood and the local dirt tracks. After purchasing his first record by Suicidal Tendencies he traded his BMX bike in for a Lance Mountain skateboard and begin to alter and sketch on his shoes, pants, skateboards and some cases his books. At the age of 15, he had heard the voice of his mother for the very first time since preschool but soon after the family was plagued again when his mother tried to commit suicide with the young Barrera in her company.
This was the first time he had heard the term 5150 stated by an officer when communicating with ambulance drivers en rout via a CB two way radio. Almost one year later Barrera's mother Gloria was released from the hospital and came home.
Barrera quickly focused his time and energy with friends and in households other than his own, he took up snowboarding and still continued on with baseball where he ended playing the game after making the varsity high school team the Corona Panthers. Barrera dedicated the next 12 years to snowboarding and moved away to Sandy, Utah, Big Bear Lake, and Newport Beach for the spring/summer seasons where he worked for a friends family construction business. At 23, Barrera secured multiple sponsors and was soon paid to snowboard and wear apparel exclusively for SMP clothing and Vision Snowboards where he played a large roll in the research and development, design and production process of soft and hard goods. This would soon be a major influence and catalyst for his later design and entrepreneurial ambitions.

The headlining performing artists were national ska artists greats the Voodoo Glow Skulls and Huntington Beach, CA punk legends Guttermouth supported by Christian Fletcher s band Absolute. The event was a dusty success with a recorded 1,750+ in attendance in the middle of the Southern California desert at the Winchester Arena, in Winchester, California.
Barrera spent his final years on his snowboard, driving snow cats, building and designing snow parks for the Bear Mt. & Snow Summit Resorts. Barrera was seriously injured with a neck and shoulder injury that left him immobile with metal in his shoulder for 6 months. He never returned to the sport again. At 28, Barrera took his construction background to a professional level where he was mentored and secured his contractors license. Soon Barrera was working with clients of his own out of a showroom located on the boarder of Costa Mesa Newport Beach. Barrera had just entered the custom spec home industry. With his passion for apparel design Barrera started a men’s and women’s leather accessories brand called UHF an acronym for Unique Historic Fashion where he made them by hand, soon Barrera moved on to larger items and quantities where he outsourced and managed the production and purchase orders.
