Roger Ivie

Roger Ivie is an American Country Music recording artist. Ivie was born in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1955, as the middle child of 13 brothers and sisters including stepbrothers and sisters. In 1956-57 his family moved to the West coast where they lived as migrant workers following the crops and the harvest seasons throughout the western states before returning to Oklahoma in the early 1960s.

Ivie left home before the age of 14. He married at the age of 16, and by the time he turned 17 he had enlisted with the United States Army as a Vietnam combat volunteer. He had one son, Shannon Dale, born February 1, 1972. After a couple of years in the army he started his entertainment career by playing guitar and singing in the local bars in and around Duncan, Oklahoma.

In the late 1970s Ivie relocated to Oklahoma City, and soon became one of the premier country entertainers in the state. It was not surprising that at the time his contemporaries included such soon-to-be-famous talents as Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, and others all who later came to leave their own mark on country music.

In 1980 he signed his second (the first was with D.I.C.E. Records, 1975) recording contract with independent recording label Cardinal Records, and signed as a writer with Star Com Publishing. By the early 1980s Roger already had two Billboard chart singles to his credit as well. With his band, Roger Ivie and Texas Rose, formerly Roger Ivie & Silver Creek, he headlined his own show tours, and shared the stage with almost every major act in country music.

Roger Ivie and his band are credited with putting the "country bluegrass" sound in the national spotlight with their début album and Billboard chart single “You and Me and Tennessee” long before the movie came out that rocketed awareness of country bluegrass to the American music forefront with younger generation fans. His second Billboard single from the same album, “Lonely Women” went into the Top 100 charts while their first single was still climbing with a bullet, and eventually passed the first release to make Ivie one of only a handful of artists to ever claim this distinction.

When asked who his major influences were Roger states without hesitation, Joe Carrol, Merle Haggard and Conway Twitty with a little ZZ Top and CCR (Creadence Clearwater Revival) thrown in for kicks!

Roger Ivie makes his home in Nashville, Tennessee where he lives today with his wife Dian, and continues to write and record music with and for many other country music entertainers.

I have a copy of your 45 Lonely women, from 1982. It has been one of my favorite songs for years! i still like it better than most of the new stuff out there!!!! I got to see your show in Nashville afew weeks ago and it was ever bit as great as I had anticipated. I love your voice......Why don't you sing more of your older stuff? i like the new stuff but fell in love with the older songs first!
