Biography
Roberto Parra was born in 1955 in Temuco, where he lived until he was approximately 5 years old. His father was a Baptist pastor, and his work took him to different parts of the country to found new churches. For this reason, Roberto spent much of his youth in San Felipe.
In 1974, after finishing high school in this city, he decided to return to Temuco to study electronics. After studying electronics for about three years, he decided to change majors and enrolled in Social work at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV), which led him to live in that city.
Thus, on December 5, 1982, the Hogar La Roca Therapeutic Community was officially created. This project was initially self-managed and Christian-inspired. Later, on December 29, 1988, the La Roca Community Corporation was established as a private, non-profit organization. Parra managed to be elected as councilor of Viña del Mar (1996).
On September 1, 2000, politician Rodrigo González Torres (PPD) was removed from office by the Electoral Tribunal for serious dereliction of duty. As a result, the municipal council was forced to appoint the candidate with the most votes in the 1996 elections, that is to say, Roberto Parra, who was ratified by 9 of 10 councilors. However, he wasn't elected.
