Robert de Bruges

Robert de Bruges was Castellan of Bruges in 1046 upon grant by the Count of Flanders and may have been the younger son of Lambert I Count of Leuven (following recent research and analysis, primarily armorial). Robert de Bruges later emigrated to Normandy between 1051-1053, principally to accompany (with other regional nobles) the Count of Flanders daughter Matilda of Flanders upon her marriage to Duke William (later to be known as William the Conqueror).
The (conjectural) son of Robert de Bruges and his spouse Emma de Bretagne (Emma of Brittany) - - would later settle in Scotland and be conferred 1st Lord of Annandale by King David I. Robert de Bruges, seven generations later, would become the great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of Edward the Bruce High King of Ireland and Robert I the Bruce King of Scotland.
