In the King of Fighters series, Riot of the Blood is the main result of a everlasting powerful curse, being carried by the descendants of the Yagami Clan who made a blood pact with the Orochi. It is a berserker stage that takes place when carriers of the Orochi blood become incoherent with great speed and strength, and attempt to kill any living being in their path.
As a side-effect of the Orochi's curse, the carriers periodically experience bodily pains, cough up blood spontaneously, and often have no memory of their actions and are prone to being exceedingly violent. The curse also causes each heir to die young and each mother to die in childbirth.
Although it is possible for those not of the Yagami Clan to receive the Orochi power, however it is impossible to control it, for it destroys those who are not born of it. This is proven when Iori Yagami tells Rugal Bernstein that "only those of the bloodline" can control Orochi's power, his (Rugal's) body disintegrates, being consumed by it...

SNK Boss Syndrome
SNK Boss Syndrome was named for a well-known situation that many players normally encounter in fighting games that are made by SNK, which includes the Fatal Fury and King of the Fighters series. In recent years, however, the term has also been used for non-SNK fighting games.
The syndrome is when computer-controlled boss character seems to have special and super moves that seem to have a much larger priority, or great length and range advantage over all other characters in the game. The ablilites of these boss characters seem nearly impossible to stop, or even counter, in all movements of animation.
Another case of the syndrome would be a boss character who can utilize moves, special moves and, super moves in a consecutive pattern without charging or lag time, which results in unfortunate situations that are largely known as corner trapping, neverending juggles, or combos. This is usually done without the use of a super meter, leaving frustrated players at a great disadvantage.
Their high AI is programmed to read the moves of players, meaning that they basically know ahead of time what the player will do, and already have a counter ready for it.
Boss characters usually have greater endurance, because of longer life bars or their defenses, resulting in taking less damage than normal characters.
